Teen Boy Killed by Stray Bullet While Playing Video Games in His Own Room – Newsweek

A 13-year-old in Pasadena, California, was killed by a stray bullet Saturday night while in his own bedroom, according to authorities.

The boy, whose name has not been released to the public, was reportedly playing video games when a shooting broke out near his home.

It is unknown at this time what caused the shooting or who was involved. It is believed that around 3-5 shots were fired near the boy’s home At least one of these shots went through his bedroom window and struck him.

He was found by other members of his family who called for help.

Emergency responders confirmed that the teen had a gunshot wound when they arrived at the home. CPR was performed at the scene, and the victim was then taken to a nearby hospital. Not long after, he was officially declared dead.

“If you know anything about this tragic incident, or you saw anything, please, please, please come forward to the Pasadena Police Department,” said Mark Goodman, commander of the city’s police force, in a statement. “We will keep your information anonymous. What we want to do is find the people who are responsible for this tragic incident and bring them to justice.”

“We’re looking at all the available video that we have,” Pasadena Police Chief John Perez added, per KTLA. “There’s so much we have to look at because there are hours and hours of video, and we just don’t look at the time it occurred.”

Perez described the victim as an innocent and a “straight-A” student.

“It’s an absolute tragedy for our community,” he said. “This 13-year-old was innocent. He was doing what 13-year-olds do, playing video games in his house.”

Speaking to the Pasadena Morning-Star, neighbor Jovita Gonzalez said that she heard two shots ring out on Saturday night and went out to see what was happening. She saw the boy’s family waiting for help as the father stood motionless and the mother wept in the front yard.

“Without saying anything, she reached out and held me,” Gonzalez described. “She was pointing here, at her lung, and screaming, ‘They hurt my boy,’ and kept asking if the ambulance was here.”
